瀬谷文/横浜・瀬谷地図くらぶ Looking at these, it would seem that there is a club of (local) people studying Yokohama and Seya maps, and Seya Mss, possibly headed by Mr Tanaka, and the findings are or were being reported in a series in the Seya Town News' as of last year anyway.

Thank you Piers, I thought it was a club, but equally thought it too likely.

    鷹狩は飼育する鷹(オオタカ・ツミ・クマワシ・ハヤブサなど)に鳥獣を捕らえさせる狩猟であり、徳川幕府・ 各藩は領内に鷹場を設け遊楽の一つとして重視した。

It cannot be over emphasised, how during the period of the Tokugawa Bakufu, the various clans in the area brought together as one, both the pleasures of the Hawking Fields and the protection of both Crops and livestock from Vermin threat; and thus it was that the breeding of specific breeds of hunting birds such as Goshawk, Sparrowhawk, Golden Eagle & Falcon became important to the region.

The Hawking Fields were nicknamed "The Fist Fields" due to no lesser person than the Shogun himself coming there to enjoy the thrill of hunting and hold a Hawk (in his hand).

(Excerpt from the second volume of the History of Seya ward). From the early years of the Kouho era 1732 - 1733 the fields around Seya were well stocked with Birds and other Wildlife, however by the time of the Tenpo reforms culminating in 1841, the road to the Shogun's Summer Palace at Nakahara Goten was declared off limits by decree.

(Most likely following the time of the great famine which lasted four 4 years in the mid 1830's where migration to Edo was banned).

So, let's put it all together:

The two large circles indicate the positions of the Taka Bangoya 鷹番小屋 Viewing huts atop a man made mound in the arable land. (looks like the OS symbol for an earthwork)

The vertical rectangle indicates Yamano 山野.

The horizontal rectangle indicates Seya Station and the City Circle Line.

The large 境川 shows the position of the Sakai River

Here's what the area looks like today:

I've found the southern Taka Bangoya earthwork:

Unfortunately I cannot yet locate the northern one.
