Thank you David, I'm pleased with the result. Question...Did you enlarge the image to check the lacing?

You're welcome John! Well, I didn't check every crossknot, rather quickly glanced over it, but it looks fine to me

          General impression, spanking!

I have a similar one in the pipeline, but no way it will ever look as good as your Kabuto.

Thank you Piers! Why on earth wouldn't yours ever look as good?

Good work on the shikoro John!
You know my standpoint regarding the “lacquer” (about loosing “charisma” and the “smell” of age) but I have to admit.....very nice result, good workmanship.
              You can be pleased!!

Thanks Uwe, look at it like this. When I bought it the general consensus that it was beyond redemption. Left as it was I suspect sooner or later it would have ended stuck in a box somewhere decaying further. At least now it has a new lease of life. (I hope). And I’m absolutely with you on the ‘gleaming newness’. With motorcycles I prefer minimum restoration. But, I’m not keen of faked patina either. For me it’s very little or the full Monty.

                  Darth Vadar!

John, I would not have the patience or the technique to do what you have done.
I have two zunari, two sets of Fukigaéshi, one set of shikoro, some ukebari, one Shinobu-no-o and one project staring at me.

On the other hand I did refurbish a jingasa today.

Hoping this will show people just how good your job is John.
This is my project, to make one nice example from two Kabuto.

Two nice zunari kabuto. I think the left one has several interesting features. Both falls under the ecchu-style with the left one winning my vote 🙂
You have some work ahead of you.

Piers, when you're done with your "make 1 from 2" project, just send me the other ol' bucket Would love to have one for learning purposes

Haha, David. At present I am not seeing any movement on this project, sadly. One voice says to just chuck the lot into a local auction and clean the decks.
